(Assistant) Information Officer

This post offers an excellent opportunity to become involved in producing cancer information at a regional level in order to help shape cancer services. One of twelve cancer registries in the UK, NYCRIS maintains a comprehensive database of all cancers occurring in the Northern and Yorkshire Region (plus South Humber). The Information Services Unit within NYCRIS provides a responsive cancer information and analysis service, monitors the quality and integrity of the data and carries out detailed region-wide cancer studies. The Information Officer plays a key role in providing the ad-hoc information request service as well dealing with more routine information needs. This post can also be appointed to at Assistant Information Officer level, providing the opportunity to gain further experience in specific areas in order to meet the competencies of the Information Officer post. Applications will be considered from all applicants with appropriate IT skills, in particular Access and Excel. Experience of analysing and presenting data is essential for the higher level post and all applicants should have a general awareness of the issues surrounding confidentiality and data release. A methodical and analytical approach is essential, as is an enthusiasm to turn data into real information.

This post offers an excellent opportunity for someone to become heavily involved in producing cancer information at a regional level in order to help shape cancer services. NYCRIS maintains a detailed database of all cancers occurring in the Northern and Yorkshire Region (plus South Humber). The Information Services Unit within NYCRIS provides a responsive cancer information and analysis service, monitors the quality and integrity of the data and carries out detailed region-wide cancer studies. The Information Co-ordinator will take the lead role in co-ordinating the information request service and prioritising work appropriately, ensuring data is released in accordance with the NYCRIS protocol. Another key aspect of this post is to contribute to the development of the NYCRIS Information Strategy as well as be involved in the day to day analysis and presentation of NYCRIS data.

Applications will be considered from graduates (or equivalent) with appropriate IT skills, in particular Access, Excel, SQL and Unix. Experience of analysing and presenting data and an enthusiasm to turn data into real information is essential, as is the ability to prioritise and co-ordinate workload of self and others. Knowledge of issues surrounding Data Protection and Caldicott is also essential along with some experience of designing and developing databases.
